Most people think of Jamaica when they hear the words "jerk sauce" but the jerk process actually originated in Africa as a way of preserving and seasoning meat.
Kilimanjaro Foods produces a gourmet jerk sauce that more closely follows the original African recipe and, as a result, the flavor profile of our sauce differs significantly from Caribbean jerk. Our chef has created a sauce that provides a layered pallet of flavor; rather than focus on heat, we have devoted our attention to creating a jerk sauce that delivers a diverse selection of spice that really enhances the taste of whatever it is added to.
Our Original African Jerk Sauce has a thicker, smoother body than most which gives it more versatility in the kitchen. While most people use jerk sauce to marinade chicken and other meats, we have found the rich and diverse flavors of our African Jerk Sauce to be much more adaptable.
Allow us to give you a small taste of how this unique jerk sauce can do more than just marinade meat.
Jerk Sauce Recipes African Jerk Corn Muffins
Using your favorite corn muffin mix add 1/4 cup of African Jerk Sauce to the mix, along with 1/4 cup of honey.
We like to use mini muffin pans since these tend to set up better during baking.
*Be careful to watch your muffins closely since adding honey will cause them to burn more quickly.
The result is a spicy sweet corn muffin that is sure to titillate your taste buds!
Jerk Cream Cheese Spread
Simply take 8 oz of cream cheese and add 1/3 cup of jerk sauce and 1/2 cup of confectioner's sugar. Mix well and serve with ginger snaps for a tasty treat!
